Details of the Second Bronze Casting of Shattered
This page provides a strong understanding of what the Shattered bronze cast would look and feel like for those that invest and receive one of their own.
The first detail all want to know is the height/size of this bronze cast. The total height of the bronze is 3.5" tall. Toy considered a larger statue but after discussing with trusted art muses, consensus was a smaller height would be more versatile for display (like on a desk or ornament cabinet). Another factor was the cost per edition would remain affordable to a larger audience wanting a bronze edition. To provide an accurate real world perspective of how large the actual bronze cast is, the photo to the right shows one of the bronzes along with a pen and Toy's hand. Regarding weight. Normally bronze casts are hollow to reduce weight and cost. But because of the dimensions of Shattered, the casts will be solid hot-poured bronze. This is good news for owners of the Shattered casts as they will receive a small yet heavy solid bronze statue. The weight actually has surprised many whom have held it. Also, because it is solid, it has a unique attribute of chiming / tinging like a bell if its flicked by a finger. It is said that "Shattered Sings" :) |
Below are the actual dimensions and weight of the Shattered Bronze that each buyer would receive :
DIMENSIONS: 3.5" tall , 2.8" deep , 2.1" wide
WEIGHT: 1.5 lb (solid bronze cast)
This second casting of Shattered will use the master mold that was created from the first casting. The master mold can only produce a maximum of approximately 40 wax mold editions before the mold is not of the quality to create more. There were only 13 editions created in the first edition. This will be the last casting using this mold. Although the quality of each edition will be high, the earlier editions will always be the finest as they were created first from the fresh mold.
Another critical fact about the bronze cast edition is the uniqueness of each edition. Although all bronzes are created from the same master mold, each and every bronze edition is slightly unique from all others. The bronzes are created using a traditional "Lost Wax" process which requires hand craftsmanship throughout the entire process. Each edition has a wax model assembled from wax parts created from the master mold. As such, each wax model will have subtle differences. Finally, each resulting bronze cast is hand finished, patina stained, and buffed / polished. This further ensures that even the coloring will be slightly unique for each bronze edition.
These editions are not mass produced whereby 1000's of bronzes are created identically like a cookie cutter. The process to create a single casting of 20 editions is time & labor consuming and can take up to 6 weeks at the metal art foundry (even if the master mold is already made from the first casting).
Each cast edition will be cast with Toy's artist signature symbol and the casting run #. In this case it will be casting 2. This Signature and casting number will be located discreetly under the left leg of Shattered. Additionally, each of the 20 editions will be uniquely numbered from 1 to 20. This number will be located discreetly under the right leg of Shattered. It is important to know that the signature, casting number and edition number will be cast into the bronze - NOT ENGRAVED after casting.
